WASP
Wireless Acquisition Standard Protocol

Welcome to the WASP website. WASP stands for Wireless Acquisition Standard Protocol and it is a protocol intended for short range radio communication of data. It is being developed by a group of Water Utilities and communications equipment suppliers, to meet the Water Utilities’ need for interoperable devices to monitor their assets.

WASP applications are characterised by low data rates, simple data, ranges up to 100 metres and battery operation with a life of years. Typically they would include data such as level and flow from sewage and drinking water sites.

The WASP protocol is designed to operate on the unlicensed radio spectrum for short range devices within the European Union and has been developed with the support of the Low Power Radio Association.

The basic WASP specification was produced in September 2005, and prototypes using the protocol will be tested during 2007.
